The Future Medicine Science Match (FMSM) is a flagship event with a focus on medical research, innovative ideas and concepts for the future of science, research and health care, taking place during the Berlin Science Week. EUHA is a network partner at this year’s conference and several EUHA colleagues will contribute by participating in panel discussions.
The EUHA Members’ Assembly, scheduled for November 10th in Berlin, will be hosted by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and will bring together representatives from all EUHA members, ten of Europe’s leading university hospitals. During the meeting, EUHA representatives will discuss EUHA’s ongoing projects to address workforce challenges and sustainable healthcare systems, review the progress of EUHA working groups and networks, and discuss EUHA’s organisational and operational developments.
Rethinking healthcare systems is critical to creating resilient and sustainable healthcare that can navigate the uncertainty of the future. With nurses being the largest section of the healthcare profession, rethinking and empowering their roles and practices is fundamental to achieving meaningful changes. This year’s World Health Summit 2023 will feature a session on rethinking nursing and new competency models.
Leaders of the EUHA Nursing Network were invited as keynote speakers to a research symposium at Aarhus University Hospital on May 22nd. They presented the EUHA Nursing Mission Statement and their mapping exercise on nursing research areas in different EUHA members.

Karolinska University Hospital is organising an event with panel debates centred around the challenges in the EU healthcare agenda. Peter Gocke, will be representing EUHA and will contribute to the discussion on cross-border healthcare and the EU proposals to extend the scope of e-Health cross-border services to additional cases on the perspective of international patients.
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and EUHA will co-host the event “Ready for the next crisis – Building resilient healthcare systems in Europe”. Panellists from different European organisations, including EUHA, will discuss the implications of a health system reform to build resilient healthcare systems.
The EUHA Rare Diseases & European Reference Networks (RD & ERNs) Network met in Paris on the 15th and 16th of November. The network discussed the minimum set of requirements to ensure a proper transition from paediatric to adult healthcare for rare disease patients, explored the possibilities for implementing exchanges and emphasised the role of the network to support transversal work on rare diseases in our hospitals, collaboration with ERNs, exploring potential synergies and avoiding parallel work.
The representatives of all EUHA members, nine of Europe’s leading university hospitals, will be hosted by the University Hospital Vienna (AKH Wien) for the upcoming EUHA Members’ Assembly, taking place on November 28th in Vienna. The meeting will explore opportunities to work together on workforce challenges, finalise the mission statement of the Nursing Network, and agree on the strategic work plan of the Innovation Network.
