The EUHA Members’ Assembly, scheduled for November 10th in Berlin, will be hosted by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and will bring together representatives from all EUHA members, ten of Europe’s leading university hospitals. During the meeting, EUHA representatives will discuss EUHA’s ongoing projects to address workforce challenges and sustainable healthcare systems, review the progress of EUHA working groups and networks, and discuss EUHA’s organisational and operational developments.
At the twice-yearly Members’ Assembly, representatives from each EUHA member, including their CEOs and EUHA Steering Committee members, decide on EUHA’s agenda and long-term plan. Together, the CEOs provide direction for the EUHA Steering Committee, networks and working groups.
This Autumn’s assembly will take place on Friday 10th of November in Berlin and will be chaired by Prof Dr Heyo Kroemer, CEO of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and serving EUHA president
A year since the inclusion of Aarhus University Hospital
This November’s EUHA Members’ Assembly celebrates a year since Aarhus University Hospital became a part of EUHA. Aarhus University Hospital has made significant contributions during this time, especially in shaping EUHA’s EU strategy. Many colleagues from Aarhus have also joined EUHA’s working groups and networks, sharing their valuable expertise.
EUCCAT Working Group
In addition to the Members’ Assembly, the EUCCAT (European Centre for Gene & Cellular Therapies) Working Group will meet in the preceding days. The group will focus on the ongoing decentralised clinical trials taking place between EUHA members. With this project, the group aims to facilitate the development and translation of academia-developed ATMPs (Advanced therapy medicinal products) into clinical applications and to demonstrate that new models for clinical development based on cost-sharing, fair reward, and ethical pricing are possible through the intense collaboration of specialised hospitals via EUHA.
Moreover, the meeting takes place during the Berlin Science Week – a full week of interdisciplinary conferences and events. Part of the Berlin Science Week is the Future Medicine Science Match organised by the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité and the newspaper Tagesspiegel. EUHA is a network partner for this year’s conference, and EUCCAT colleagues will be contributing to various sessions.
Sustainable Healthcare Systems and Future Workforce
Exactly a year ago, in November 2022, the Members’ Assembly adopted a strategic goal to build a sustainable healthcare workforce and explore a joint European effort to contribute to the sustainability of healthcare systems. Since then, EUHA colleagues and the Steering Committee have worked on various projects and proposals aligned with this goal.
For this reason, an important item at the upcoming Members’ Assembly will be to assess the progress of such projects and proposals and agree on the next steps concerning projects and collaborations.
EUHA Presidency handover
Finally, at the end of the Members’ Assembly, the EUHA presidency will hand over from Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin to Karolinska University Hospital, who will hold the position until the Spring Members’ Assembly in 2024, on June 14th.
